Dr. Charles A. Gatto is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon and partner at the Advanced Spine Center, serving patients throughout New Jersey with expert diagnosis and treatment of complex spinal conditions. As Chief of the Spine Section for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Morristown Medical Center, Dr. Gatto is recognized for his extensive expertise in spine trauma, degenerative spinal disorders, work-related spinal injuries, and minimally invasive spine surgery.
Known for his patient-first and conservative treatment philosophy, Dr. Gatto prioritizes comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and non-surgical treatment options whenever possible before recommending surgical intervention. Dr. Gatto earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University and completed his orthopedic surgery residency, internship, and specialized spine fellowship training at Albany Medical Center. During his training, he received prestigious honors including The Barnett Award for Excellence in Medicine and The Clark Award for Excellence in Research. He also served as Chief Resident and later as a clinical instructor in orthopedic surgery.
Before establishing his practice in New Jersey, Dr. Gatto served as Chief of Spine Surgery and Clinical Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He later became Director of the Tri-County Spine Center in Morristown, where he continued to advance the treatment of spinal disorders and injuries.
Recognized among New Jersey’s leading spine specialists, Dr. Gatto has been named a New Jersey Top Doctor by New Jersey Monthly Magazine and has consistently been recognized by the Consumers Research Council of America as one of America’s Top Physicians in Spine Surgery. In addition to his clinical work, he is a co-founder and board member of Kids’ Chance of New Jersey, a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to children of catastrophically or fatally injured New Jersey workers.
